Wow The Semester is over

Summary:
Practicum has been a great experience for me this semester, I came in knowing a lot of information but I never realized how much more effort is put in to getting shows & packages done on a weekly basis.

This semester I have spent a lot of time getting to know the upperclassman and trying to get under their wing and learn as much as I can. Going into the year I really wanted to work on the sports side but once I found out the sports show was during one of my classes, I decided to take an opportunity to work alongside Austen, Olivia, Lauren, Rachel and later in the semester Professor Allen to help make Mocs Talk one of the best parts of the semester because we became a well-oiled machine where we have the entire studio ready in under 15 minutes and Austen would still be writing the script for the show, but once the show started it took at minimum 3 takes to have the show finished. I also believe Professor Allen helped change the way, the news show is looked at, because the show has nice graphics as well being shot in HD. It gives us a sense of respect that we are capable of making good material.

I also have filmed multiple sports, Volleyball, Men’s basketball and both the men’s and women’s soccer, I look forward to having a bigger role next semester when it comes to shooting sports such as baseball and lacrosse.

I have really enjoyed taking part in Mocs Sports Talk with Tony & Ryan, I believe it has helped me understand the studio better and helped form a sense of trust with Ryan & Tony. Where they can depend on me for future assignments Tony has taught me a lot when it comes to the studio and understanding how to continue a conversation and being able to manage time properly without any long pauses, Ryan and I also learned how to log and capture and place our hard work online for the world to hear.  I personally believe that if anyone loves sports and is a broadcast major they should defiantly try their hand at it because it is a lot of fun taking part in something I personally love to do and gain experience while doing it.

Also this year I helped film my first postgame interview with a coach on the basketball team and players as well it was very interesting and something I have always wanted to do. I also have taken part in article discussions in the class portion of practicum I found it interesting how much goes on during the week in comparison with communications, although I could do without the constant political conversations.

All in all this has been a very good semester with lot of great opportunity’s presenting themselves to me whether that’s taking part in a news show, filming packages or highlights and working on a sports podcast. It’s been great getting a chance to work with such smart people, who I believe really want our department to succeed and that is an amazing feeling that I hope doesn’t change any time soon.

Catching up Part 1

On November 5th I took part in the news show on camera and we got it shot it all in one take, I think once I fully learn how to get the studio camera off and Professor Allen's camera on the show will only take 30 mins. However until then another hour gained.

And then on November 8th I did another sports talk with Ryan and Tony, everything went smoothly except we always have trouble with people walking in on the show and the xlr's sometimes don't want to work. Other than that another great week. The hours just keep coming.

Total Hours: 33 hours.
