However we did get shots of girls receiving bids as well as down in the greek quad with the sororities before and after the new girls ran down the hill. Ryan and I also edited the Vo and worte the reader for it, because of some issues with final cut it ended up taking hour to edit and write the script.

I also wrote two readers for the news show and sports show, one on the swim team and their meet at the all-florida invational. And the other was on fall break trips and Junior Journey.

Bid Day, Newshow, Girls soccer, and Standup For Dion

This past Saturday Gabi, Ashley, and I shot bid day we got different shots at the bandshell of students receiving bids as well as down in the Greek Quad. While waiting for the new members to run down we got shots of the different fraternity's. While filming we where looking for good Nat sound and shots of how the campus is on days such as bid day. After bid day Ashley and I went to the comm studio and after some technical difficulties that where sorted out by Dr. Bradford, we ended up creating a VO on Bid Day and will be on the news show this week.

This Monday I also took part in the news show learning about the switcher from Rachel. I'm really looking forward to working with that piece of equipment and continuing to work on the news show.

On Tuesday I also helped film the first half of the girls soccer game with Ryan although the girls did not score in the first half I think we got enough highlights for the news show later next week. I had to leave early because I then had to go shoot Dion's stand-up on his Jeff Corwin Package.

On Monday the 9th I was in the studio running camera as well as teaching Gabi how to run some of the new equipment in the studio.

On Saturday the 14th Ryan and I shot the men's soccer game for the first half, unfortunately a rain delay led to a cancellation of the game. We returned the next day and shot the game and got any remaining highlights we needed such as b-roll of the coach and team.

On Monday I was in the studio again this time fixing lights and filming Dion and Tori's stand ups for the show.  Ryan and I also edited the soccer highlights later in day which Tori ended up using in the news show.

First blog of sophomore year Readers, Volleyball and Soccer games oh my!

For me Sophomore Year is off to an eventful start so far. As of Sunday September 9th I have written two readers for the news show both on political news. I personally am not a fan of covering politics however it was interesting trying to find information on both the SGA elections as well as finding out who the candidates where for the Lakeland mayoral election. I also worked the soccer game for Tony D'angelo's package on the new head coach Ryan Snegoski I shot by myself while Tony was in the tower shooting. At the end of the game we interviewed one of the co-captains on how the new coach is affecting the team. On Friday Tony D'angelo, Ashley Buckley and myself worked together on the women's volleyball game we got multiple angles on the floor and up high. During the game Ashley got hit in the head with a volleyball but she kept shooting throughout the game, what a trooper. Although the girls lost we still interviewed two players who gave us some nice quotes about just trying to stop unforced errors. I was going to be shooting the men's soccer game on Saturday however due to unforeseen circumstances I had to leave before the game started.
I think this has been a great start to the year and I hope to continue to add to it while working with the news show, sports show, and writing readers

Hours Breakdown:
1 hr for Sga reader
1 hr for Lakeland Mayor election reader
3.5 hrs for the volleyball game
3 hrs for the men's soccer game

500 Word Summary

500 Word Summary
Spring semester was very different then the fall semester as I was expected to do more and I feel like in this semester I have enhanced my abilities to become even better in the upcoming fall semester.

This semester I shot sports and news and I think both have had a big effect on me.  When it came to sports I often shot with Tony, Justin, or Ryan. They all taught me different techniques to make myself better and make the videos better.  With Tony I shot Basketball, Softball, and even Tennis he was very hands on, always trying to focus on the play at hand and trying to anticipate where the play will be. Justin and Ryan both where great guys to shoot with as well as they tried to get the best shots for the packages, what they wanted be too shoot more was cutaways, player profiles, and team discussions. In addition to shooting I also worked on Mocs Sports Talk with Ryan and Tony this really helped me learn more about the studio especially the audio board and being prepared for technical problems. I really enjoyed working on Mocs Sports Talk and our new format where we used a timer on topics, and I hope we get to do it again next semester.
I also took part in the News show again this semester and I felt like I was given more responsibility, I even wrote a reader for the news show. I know it is cheesy to say but Austen’s professionalism and Rachel’s leadership was really inspiring to me and I would love to host or produce the News Show in the future. Near the end of the semester I also started to go to the sports show and I really enjoyed shooting that and I really want to continue with them. The only thing I feel like I did not take much of an effort in this semester was editing, however, I think being in Broadcast Writing will help me continue to work on my editing skills and possibly work on my producing skills.
I know it sounds I keep talking about the future, but taking classes such as Practicum and Media Writing and my internship are making very excited for next semester and getting more involved. I believe Rachel and Katie have done a great job as freshmen this year and I want to bring some competition between the three of us and I really look forward to that.
This semester has been a lot of using skills last semester and putting them to use, now I cannot wait for next semester to be here so I can be ready to take charge and be a part of the News Show, Sports Show, Mocs Sports Talk, and using skills in learn in Broadcast Writing to write more readers for Olivia and become a big part of the communication department.  I know this is a lot but I think having a lot to do is better for me.

Last news show of the semester

It was a fun but sad Monday as it was Austen's last news show it was still as always fun and we all had a couple of laughs. Being a part of the news show this semester and last semester I really know my way around the studio and it's been a lot of fun working with everybody. And I hope Austen would say the same

Spanish Saturday

So on Saturday I helped Ryan with shooting, as well as being a cast member for his Spanish video project. It was very cool using my movie making skills I gained in high school and now using them in college. Although I will not be winning an academy award anytime soon, it was really fun spending the afternoon shooting and being part of his film

New Equipment Same News Show :)

So this past week was interesting as we got brand new equipment!!! The new equipment included a tricaster and left us more room for activities or maybe another computer. On a second thought another computer might be good. Anyway on this weeks show I was cameraman again and learned new things about our new toy the tricaster. It should be a lot of fun going to the news show with more new equipment coming in.

This week's sports show

This past Wednesday instead of taking part of the weekly news show, I instead took part in the sports show and was camera for the show filming the interview between Tony, coach darner and Seth. It was a cool experience shooting something for the sports show this semester. Also getting to talk to David and Dr.Bradford about internship experience was insightful for sure.

Editing First Lacrosse Game

Ryan and I edited today and all though we had trouble with setting up capturing Dr. Bradford showed us how to fix the problem when it comes to changing the video formats. We created a 30 second highlight showing saves, goals, a face-off and a couple of cutaways. I also worked with Ryan on creating a reader for the package looking over the stats of the game. We worked from 3-5 and left the highlights on the desktop for Tori to place in the show.
Today: 2 hrs
Total 27 hrs and 30 mins

First Lacrosse Game

On Saturday Ryan Buckley, Steve and I shot the women's lacrosse game I had never seen a lacrosse game let alone shot one before so learning from Steve and Ryan really helped. We stayed up high for the shoot getting multiple shots of goals, face-offs, cutaways, and saves.  Unfortunately we ran into problems with audio on the camera while getting ready to attempting to interview a girl’s lacrosse player as we were not able to pick up any audio with the clip mic and noticed that the wire may be broken and may need to be replaced.

Sick but gained experience

On Monday night I watched Justin edit the Softball package for a half-hour it was a 20 second package using the clips with the most action and where most appealing. It was a short easy package and it was good to see the stuff I shot created into something. We left it on the desktop for Tori after Justin finished it.

Last night I shot the Men's basketball game with Tony, Brie, and Frank we shot up high as well as down on the floor because it was highlight package we did not need to go on the court and get interviews but we got shots of multiple dunks, player profiles, and coach/fan reactions. It was a very good game and should be a good package. The game was two hours long.

So at 1:00 today I shot the softball game with Justin using a different camera and having him help me with the bright sun and keeping the camera focused so we could get highlights. Although the girls lost 3-1 I think we still got pretty good highlights for the hour and a half we where there.

Editing with Ryan and David

On Wednesday I helped Ryan Buckley on editing his 20 second video and 1 minute project for Dr. Bradford it was very cool to help Ryan but also seeing David was a good learning experience as he was fixing his package because it was too dark in some shots. After some minor technical difficulties Ryan and I finished both projects but unfortunately he could not put his video in the class drop box because of technical difficulties  As a practicum student it's very neat to be able to teach some of the upperclassmen a few tricks like I did with Ryan and also seeing new things such as Tori trying to help Ryan put the video into the class drop box.

First Softball Game

Tonight I shot the second game of the woman's softball doubleheader. Tony and I got different angles such as plays at first close ups on fielders and pitchers as well as at bats for many of the girls. Although they lost 16-0 it was still a cool growing experience. After the game thanks to Jordan Alexander we where able to get two interviews and although the girls where disappointed they where great sports about it and gave Tony a couple of good sound bytes.

So this past weekend I helped shoot my first Tennis match it was interesting to say the least shooting someone's feet as well as different sides of the courts comes new to me. I shot the matches for 2 hours, I could have shot longer but was not feeling to well.

Then on Saturday after the great Woman's game I helped film with Shelby to get an hour of footage from the Men's game this was more of a highlights package.

Monday February 4th News Show and Story Writeup

So this past Monday was my first News Show of the New Year, crazy to think since I had recieved most of my hours last year because of the News Show. I also for the first time wrote a 20 second peice for the News Show it was on George Watsky coming to Florida Southern who he is and what he does. It was pretty cool experience and I might do more writing in the future.

On January 16th and 19th. Forgot to blog. oops. :)

January 16th- I helped shoot the men's basketball game with Tony, Katie and Ryan. We shot from different angles, what is important to record and what is not important and for me focusing more on certain players or parts of the play rather than just a wide view getting everything. I also helped Tony shoot a postgame interview with the assistant coach.

January 19th- Worked on the Sports Talk with Tony & Ryan. With Tony's new idea the show format has changed using a fast rapid style design that way the topic won’t be dragged out. Ryan and I did the usual set up for the show. I think the system is better because now we pick and choose what to talk about instead of a broad range.

3hrs for the basketball game and 1hr for the radio show
